Design Books for Every Occasion: Finding Your Voice
I am lucky enough to be part of a book club filled with design lovers (Interior Designers, Editors, Photo Stylists, etc). Though we have read many books on the loose theme of Home and Lifestyle, we have yet to read an actual Design book, but in our next meeting we are going for it.
And what a book this is!
Beata Heuman is a London-based Swedish-born designer. Her style is quirky, eclectic, and colorful. The book is organized in chapters that lean into a theme and feature a single project. She wrote the text herself, and her own thoughts in the introduction are perhaps the best way to tell you what this book is about:
“This book has ten chapters. The short texts that accompany each chapter discuss subjects that may be worth considering as your home takes shape. There is a focus on matters that I often find to be overlooked when it comes to interiors—things that we all need to feel at ease, such as variety, sentimentality, and even a sense of mystery. My hope is that by offering a slightly different perspective more possibilities may open up and help you find your own voice.”
While the designer’s point of view is quite strong, I believe her projects do illustrate these concepts in a way that anyone could learn from, and the photography of her work has much to offer on its own.
Can’t wait to discuss with my ladies in our next meeting!
