Goals for 2022
2021 was the year I truly made the evolution from “I’m not an entrepreuner” to embracing the CEO role in my business. Thanks to an expanding team, I had more space and support to dial in on the business and think like a boss. 2022 will be about finding balance: How do I make Heather Peterson Design an amazing place to work for my employees, an amazing collaborative partner for our trusted trades, the best team for our clients, AND keep fine tuning my creative work as a designer?
Business goals for 2022
Say No to the wrong opportunities to keep space for the right ones. I always want to help everyone, but taking on projects that are a bad fit can negatively impact the great projects, and that’s a losing proposition.
Further refine processes and transfer ownership and accountability. File under boring but necessary!
Lean on my extended team and their expertise (Graphic Design and SEO, CPA, etc)
Get on a podcast. I love listening to them and I’m ready to put myself out there. Gulp.
Ask for feedback. From clients, vendors, partners—anyone we work with. We might think we know what we are doing well and what could be improved, but I’m sure that what we will hear from partners will surprise us.
Build our team of artisans. With out increased focus on materiality, we need to expand our roster of talent. Plaster artisans, specialty painters, woodworkers, furniture makers, glass blowers—excited to dig in to it all.
Pace ourselves. An expanded team and longer list of projects means we are figuring out our capacity. Bigger projects are a marathon, not a sprint. We will need to plan accordingly.
Pin Down the Book Concept. You may not know that I love to write. I was a Creative Writing major at Vassar and my Grandfather always used to ask me when he could read my first book. I don’t think I expected it would be a design book, but here we are. We have been shooting projects consistently with Josh Grubbs in preparation, and the concept is still percolating. This is the year to get specific.
Creative Goals for 2022
Push the color stories. Let’s get a little weird and take some risks with color.
Don’t shy away from modern tile materials and application. I tend to go very classic with permanent items, but have been learning more and more that if you invest in things you love, you will never tire of them. This goes for building materials, too.
Get a little sexier. No matter where I start, I tend to veer towards something joyful and fun. That has it’s place, but I’d love to experiment with a sexier, moodier vibe. (Senior designer Lauren has it in her for sure.)
Expand the styles of homes we are working on. This is an every year goal! Specifically loving the idea of a Spanish style home, a mid-century treehouse, a Southwest Adobe style, and a Stone cottage. Have one of those? Call me.
Have fun with other content (reels, IGTV, a print piece etc)
Whew! Gearing up for a good one!
