How to: Mix Throw Pillows
Lauren here - Mixing throw pillows is an easy and inexpensive way to make a room cohesive, add color and pattern or a mini refresh. Read through my tips below on how to mix throw pillows.
I broke it down into three categories. Modern, Boho and Traditional.
Modern - Solid larger olive green velvet pillows in the back, with a bold colorful print in front and a pop of color on the round pillow that can be moved around.
Boho - Large printed mis-matched, but color coordinated pillows in the back with a lumbar pillow with tassels on one side and a crocheted natural round pillow on the other side. Nothing quite matches, but it still works.
Traditional - Large solid copper mohair pillows in the back with William Morris printed smaller pillows in the front.
Tips: Layered looks are best. Start with a larger pillow in the back, anywhere from 20”-24” square is best, then layer in a smaller size in front, such as a 16” square or 18” square. I like to even put another pillow in the middle like a round pillow or a lumbar pillow. When it comes to colors, I like to pull colors from the room, so that could we from an area rug, art, or a furniture piece. I am also a fan of a solid pillow in the back and a bold print in the front. You could even do a large scale print mixed with a small scale print. Don’t be afraid to play around and see what works. The worst thing that happens is you have a pillow that can be used elsewhere if it isn’t returnable.
Which look is your favorite?
