The Love List: Faux Bois

One of the surprising revelations that came out of our team-wide Signature Style discussions is my love of wood as a material. I don’t think of myself in this way, but also, what’s not to love? Perhaps Faux Bois (French for Fake Wood) is a cheekier nod to this sneaky favorite. It makes a lot of sense in rustic and country settings, but it can be very sophisticated in the city as well; it all depends on the application. Martha Stewart collects Faux Bois (mostly garden furniture, I think?) so that’s high praise to some. We’ve included cast items meant to look like actual branches as well as painted or printed wood grain effects.

Clockwise from top left:

I guess this would technically be a Faux Fleur, but I love this statement knob, fashioned in the likeness of a dogwood flower.

This cast planter is a classic and works anywhere.

These wood grain napkins would look great on a fall table setting.

Obsessed with the shape of this grapevine floor lamp!

On my personal wishlist, this statement necklace, another Faux Fleur.

Have I had an urn on every list? Well here’s another! I love that this painted surface could go marble, but the single color keeps it looking for like wood grain.

I love the unusual choice of a faux-bois linen on this antique chair.

Why not take it one step further and pair with a resin side table?

I’m not actually a candle person but I do have quite a collection of candlesticks, and these are totally dreamy.

This platter would add a hit of fun to any party.

for some reason we LOVE a branch hardware.

I almost bought this tree-trunk table for my own office and I sure do love the unexpected silvery finish.

Faux bois carpet in wool. Why the heck not?

Mirrors are one of my favorite applications, and Oly does it extremely well.

This charming table is what I think of when I think of Faux Bois. Probably could have started the round up there!
