2022 Goals: How did we do?

This year was a crazy one! It was interesting to look back at our goals from last year and to see that we really did a great job with the creative ones….and less so with the organizational ones.

Two of our big-picture goals were to Say No to the Wrong Opportunities in order to Make Room for the Right Ones and to Pace Ourselves. While we made concerted efforts (and progress!), it appears these will be works in progress. We are working to better define “right” and “wrong” opportunities and asking clients to be patient as we navigate the impacts of much longer lead times, which means each of our client relationships last a lot longer, and there are thus more projects on the roster at any given time.

Here’s a look at the Creative Goals:

Creative Goals for 2022

  • Push the color stories. Let’s get a little weird and take some risks with color.

    • I loved this one! Our first Tahoe project in particular played it up. In a bunk room we went with Arsenic walls, Tomato red dresser, and electric blue gingham bedding. The colors vibrate.

  • Don’t shy away from modern tile materials and application. I tend to go very classic with permanent items, but have been learning more and more that if you invest in things you love, you will never tire of them. This goes for building materials, too.

    • This year we designed a kitchen refresh for our Milwaukee project that embraces contemporary hand-made tiles and earthy, modern cabinetry. We are also putting finishing touches on the Tahoe bathrooms which also lean in to playful, modern finishes. Both of these are second homes—I’m learning more and more that these choices are all about context.

  • Get a little sexier. No matter where I start, I tend to veer towards something joyful and fun. That has it’s place, but I’d love to experiment with a sexier, moodier vibe. (Senior designer Lauren has it in her for sure.)

    • Stay tuned: our Greenwich project has sex appeal in spades!

  • Expand the styles of homes we are working on. This is an every year goal! Specifically loving the idea of a Spanish style home, a mid-century treehouse, a Southwest Adobe style, and a Stone cottage. Have one of those? Call me.

    • See also my recent blog post Wish List Dream Project edition! Both of the Tahoe homes we worked on this year were new styles, and we are in the running to work on a Manhattan town house next year. That would be new—wish us luck!

  • Have fun with other content (reels, IGTV, a print piece etc)

    • Done! Kate really embraced reels and we are in process on a beautiful Look Book with our fabulous designer, Joa.

Honestly, I’m pretty okay with this!

I have one business goal for 2023, but need to formulate creative goals. What can we dream up for the new year? Stay tuned….
