Before and After: Urban Meets Boho

An old client called me yesterday.

Her dogs had done in her dining room rug and she wanted to re-order. This project wrapped up as the pandemic began, and we photographed it when we could, some months later. I went back to revisit the photos, and realized we never shared any before and afters! We don’t have great same-angle shots of some of the spaces, but there are a few worth sharing.

One thing I will say about our work: I truly believe you should get your home the way you like it and leave it alone. Go on and live your life! It’s also why we share old work like new work; it remains relevant.

Anyhoo.

Living room Before and After

My favorite thing about the floor plan is the way it un-boxes the spaces. The curved sofa softens one corner and the chairs placed diagonally across from each other create a dynamic that breaks up the geometry of the room. The dynamic art arrangement helps, too!

Dining room Before and After:

We took the existing black accent wall and completed the room, which grounded this pass-through space and made it significant in the overall layout of this floor. We used the client’s table from her previous home, loving the way the round shape works in the room, and ate up some of the air space with an overscale pendant. I love the mix of eras and patterns in this space—one of my favorites! Just for fun, here is the other side of the space:

Den Before and After

This was mostly about programming. The previous owners used it as a playroom while our client wanted a cozy TV den. We kept the wall color and added matching loveseats, a colorful rug, boho pillows, and hung the client’s art.

Sunroom Before and After

In the sunroom, which opens to the living room opposite the dining room, we repeated the previous owners strategy of creating a reading nook in the corner. We just upsized the scale of everything and added color through textiles. We also made sure to shoot when the trees were in bloom. What a difference all of that greenery makes!
